How it works

Rule explanation

Counters can only be placed on cards in play. Counters with the same name are indistinguishable. Stat counters give a bonus to their corresponding stat equal to their number; if the card lacks that stat, those counters remain but have no effect until it gains the stat. Counters are not ongoing effects, even if placed by an action, and all are removed when their card leaves play. Wounds are not counters.

At the table

Example

Two ATK counters give a Character +2 ATK. A Charge counter instead tracks the resource described by its card; it is not a wound.

Watch for this

Common mistake

An instruction to remove counters does not remove wounds unless it separately says so. Counters do not expire merely because the turn ends.
